Working with word families is an effective way to get kids reading and help them learn to decode longer words. This book can be used in a variety of ways, to make learning to read a hands-on experience. This book is packed with short vowel word families to get students on their way to becoming awesome readers.
These activities fit in beautifully with the new common core standards and are Daily favorites! I use them at my word work station in a variety of ways:
*One of my favorite ways is with Reusable Write & Wipe Pockets that I bought from Lakeshore Learning. (You can use heavy duty page protectors as well!) The kids use dry erase markers to make words and you know how they LOVE to use markers!
*I also enlarge the pages to 11 x 17 paper, laminate, and then put them on a cookie sheet. The children put letter magnets on to make words.
*Of course, I also print the pages off, but instead of having them write on the paper, I have them use rubber stamp letters. I also got these rubber stamps at Lakeshore.
*Download my preview for links to the materials that I use at my stations.
*Check out the long vowel and short vowel versions of this book.
